I’ve never been a girly girl

I’m getting married soon – as in, in a month and a half, and all this wedding planning has just once more made me realise that I’m not a girly girl, and I’ve never been a girly girl.

Background

I grew up with two older brothers and since my parents did the two-year gap thing, my brother was my best friend when I was little. We played with cars and Legos together. Also, TV shows like Power Rangers, Pokémon, and Digimon were always watched together.

As a little kid, I loved to climb trees and play in the sand. I’d just sit in the sand or in a tree and let my imagination run wild. That was the start of my clutter box.

As an adult, I started doing full-contact karate and let me tell you – the best decision ever! It’s such great fun. I earned my black belt at the end of 2019.

Lastly, I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and Marvel. I’m not a hardcore fan that reads all the comics and whatnot, but I don’t miss any of the movies – EVER.

It’s complicated

I’m not a girly girl, but also not a tomboy. I do girly things in my weird way.

I enjoy wearing flattering clothing, but I will usually pair these outfits with pants. I don’t wear dresses because then I can’t move around like I want to, and it’s usually not flattering for my body shape.

I wear make-up but I try to keep it natural, well, as natural as makeup can be. I don’t use primer and honestly, until last year I didn’t even know what it was. I don’t contour. I don’t wear false eyelashes.

I don’t know how to do fancy hairstyles – my expertise goes as far as a French braid.

I don’t get my nails done. Long nails and karate don’t mix.

I don’t know the difference between hand butter, hand lotion, and hand cream – these are all synonyms to me. I love hand lotion/butter/cream, but I just don’t know the difference.

Why am I like this?

I asked myself, ‘why don’t I do the conventional girly things?’ It’s not that I have anything against it – I actually admire women who do the girly girl thing so effortlessly.

Then I realised – I just don’t care enough and I’m lazy.

The less I need to worry about, the more time it gives me to do the important stuff; like write blog posts, play with the dogs, cuddle with the fiancé, and kick ass – not in any specific order.

Lastly

No matter what you identify as, can you relate to this post? Do you feel as if you don’t quite fit the norm of your gender? Tell me about it in the comments.

Meh.
