A monster under my bed

I think everyone who has ever seen a scary movie is probably afraid of letting their feet hang off their bed when they sleep because it feels like some creature from a nether world will grab it and drag you to the pits of hell. Well, I used to have a monster under my bed.

The story

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been afraid of the dark, and it is embarrassing to admit that I still am. It always feels like someone is watching me. There was a time when something really was watching me—my dog.

My parents have a miniature border collie, Vicky. When I lived with my parents, she slept under my bed. Actually, anytime she was afraid of something, she would run to my room and take cover under the bed.

It’s quite a comfy bed for her, literally, because I kept a mattress and other bedding under my bed. My bed frame was quite high, and it made sense for me to keep bedding under the thing it was meant for. Otherwise, I would just forget where I put it.

How she scared me

That dog was always so sneaky. I’d often be working on my laptop with my door open and she’d come in and sneak under the bed without me hearing her. Then I’d get up and stand next to the bed and feel something hairy against my leg. It scared the bejeezus out of me, and when I looked down, it would be Vicky’s leg or tail. No matter how many times it happened, it scared me every single time. So yes, I had a monster under my bed.

Be that as it may, I really miss my dogs. I look forward to snuggling with them when I go back to South Africa to visit.

Lastly

Does your pet also scare you sometimes or is it just me? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments.

Meh.
